THE WILLIAM ALFORD LLOYD DOCUMENT COLLECTION.

Disappointingly, I have so far only discovered five original document sources for Lloyd, all letters. Interestingly, put together they provided me with a valuable insight into the activities and thoughts of Lloyd, encouraging me to locate many of the articles and letters he had published in the Journals of the time.

Sheffield Archives -  18 letters from W. A.  Lloyd to Margaret Gatty covering the period 1856-1863; also a collection of letters from Margaret Gatty to Mrs. Lloyd. The letters to Mrs. Lloyd, although giving little factual information about aquariums, do provide a valuable social insight into the closeness of their friendship.

Natural History Museum, London, - 14 letters from W. A. Lloyd to Professor Richard Owen covering the period 1853-1879.

Edinburgh University Library, - 36 letters from P. H. Gosse to W. A. Lloyd, covering the period 1856-1859.

Smithsonian Institute. USA, - 2 letters from W. A. Lloyd to

University of Melbourne, Australia, - 1 letter which I have not yet viewed.

Articles and Letters published in Journals. I have gathered together copies of over 50 letters and articles covering the years 1855-1876, making a list of 7 pages, far to long to be posted on this site. If you want the list, or more information about it, please contact me.
