Noted with precision the size, form, and number of tubercles on red seaweed, including parasitic Ceramium on a frond of Gracilaria . Annals No. 78.
April 17th
Parasitic Ceramium has divided into two incurvated hooks. Annals No. 78.
April 21st
Successfully manufactured artificial sea-water, set up aquarium for further study of suitability to hold animals. Aquarium, edition without plates p264. Noted amount of growth on red sea-weeds, the growth of Ceramium can be seen with naked eye. Annals No. 78.
April 22nd
Poured off about half of the quantity of my manufactured sea-water (filtering it through a sponge in a glass funnel) into a confectioner's show glass. I put in a bottom of small shore-pebbles, well washed in fresh water, and one or two frag­ments of stone with fronds of green sea-weed ( Ulva latissima ) growing thereon. Handbook p16. Bulla hydatis laid mass of spawn on a decaying frond of Rhodosperm palmate in square tank. Leeds.
